Women's Residential Treatment Program

Pinewood Centre-Women's Residential Treatment Program meets the needs of women age 18 and over, with substance abuse concerns. 

Residential & Day Program

  • A 21-day, live-in program offers women a safe residence while working towards their treatment goals - women must be able to maintain abstinence throughout the 21 day program 
  • Intensive group counselling based program that is women-centred and trauma informed
  • Trained, professional staff on-site 24 hours a day
  • Private bedrooms provide personal space 
  • Clients within commuting distance may be able to attend the day program held Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.

Program Philosophy

The Women's Residential Treatment Program is trauma informed and women-centred, providing a highly structured program that addresses the biopsychosocial needs of women. Client goals range from abstinence to controlled use. 

The program offers women individual and group counselling through a variety of treatment approaches: psycho-education, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), First Stage Trauma Treatment, creative expression, Recreation Therapy, and psychodrama. 

Clients must be abstinent for a minimum of 72 hours prior to admission and throughout their treatment program at the Women's Residential Treatment Program.

Programming is woman-centred, trauma-informed, and based upon best practices, designed to address the specific needs and concerns of women, including:
  • First stage trauma treatment
  • Relapse prevention
  • DBT
  • Communication
  • Anger
  • Self-esteem
  • Body image
  • Relationship and family issues 
  • Life skills
  • Leisure planning
  • Yoga
  • Specific supports for pregnant women are also offered on-site

 Referrals

  • Referral from an Addiction Counsellor, along with the current provincial assessment tool (GAIN Q3 MI).
  • Clients referred to the Women's Residential Treatment Program have found that less intensive treatment programs have not helped the client to achieve their substance use goal.   
  • Clients must be able to participate in an insight oriented program and manage well in a group based setting.
  • Clients prescribed an Opiate Agonist Therapy are accepted.

  • Priority admission is provided to pregnant women.
