Breast Assessment

The Heather Griffith Breast Assessment Centre has services and programs for your breast health. You will be cared for by a team of nurses, technologists, surgeons, diagnostic imaging services, and radiologists (doctors who look at the breast images).

You can have breast screening done at The Breast Assessment Centre through the following programs:

  • Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP)
    You can refer yourself to this program.
    To schedule your appointment, call Central Booking at 905-721-4717. 
  • High Risk Breast Cancer Screening Program
    You may be eligable for high risk screening if you are 30-69 years old and have a personal or family history of cancer.  
  • Appointment with a surgeon. Patients may be seen by a surgeon for the following reasons: abnormal mammogram, abnormal ultrasound, suspicious breast lump, bloody nipple discharge, positive core biopsy, complex symptomatic cysts, patient education. Here's our referral form.
  • A Nurse Navigator. You can talk to a nurse navigator for support or information. You may call the nurse navigator at 905-576-8711 ext. 36414.  Read our hand out on the Breast Assessment Program.

Breast screening is also available at these other locations in Durham Region.  

You may have the following tests or appointments at The Heather Griffith Breast Assessment Centre:

  • A mammogram (an x-ray image of the breast).
    To schedule your appointment, call Central Booking at 905-721-4717.
  • A breast ultrasound (use of sound waves to create a picture of the breast).
    To schedule your appointment, call Central Booking at 905-721-4717.
  • A breast biopsy (removal of a small sample of breast tissue).
    To discuss your appointment, contact 905-576-8711 ext. 33923.
  • Breast core biopsy after care.

Directions

The Breast Assessment Centre is found on B1 level, N wing of Lakeridge Health Oshawa. The centre is next to the MRI (Medical Resonance Imaging) area where Breast MRI exams are done.
