Durham Region – New Year’s Day has brought good news with the arrival of the first baby of 2025 in Durham Region born at Oshawa Hospital at 1:56 a.m.
Proud parents Navethra Goviandarasu and Rathnagiri Athiannan are excited to welcome their first child, a female, who weighed five pounds, twelve ounces at birth. The family is still deciding on the child’s name.
The parents are grateful for the tremendous support and compassion they received from the team including obstetrician, Dr. Paul Pancham at Oshawa Hospital.
At the Ajax Pickering Hospital, Mulki Saleman welcomed her first child, a male, at 7:36 a.m.
At this time, no baby has been born on New Year’s Day at Port Perry Hospital’s, New Life Centre.
With birthing suites at the Ajax Pickering, Oshawa, and Port Perry Hospitals, Lakeridge Health is the eighth largest birthing centre in Ontario. Our teams delivered approximately 4,447 babies in 2023/24.
