Working in collaboration with Southbridge Care, Lakeridge Health will assume temporary management of Orchard Villa Long-Term Care Home effective June 12, as directed by the Government of Ontario for the next 90 days.
This role builds on the support that Lakeridge Health has been providing since the April 21 Order from Durham Region Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Robert Kyle. Under the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act, Lakeridge Health was asked to lead the monitoring, investigating and responding to the outbreak. In this capacity, Lakeridge Health will work with the leadership of Orchard Villa to ensure that the appropriate policies and procedures are in place to better respond to future outbreaks enabling the safest care for residents and staff.
Together with Orchard Villa staff and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Lakeridge Health has made important strides at strengthening infection control and education. The team also provided training and re-education in areas such as the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). These measures are helping to prevent further decontamination and to contain the virus. As a result, there have been no new positive cases for residents in the last several weeks.
Lakeridge Health announced the COVID-19 outbreak was declared over on June 11 ,2020.

I will continue to monitor and do everything I can to protect our most vulnerable and keep them safe.”
