Regional Colposcopy/Cervical Screening Lead
The Central East Regional Cancer Program (CE RCP) is currently seeking a Regional Colposcopy/Cervical Screening Lead who is a recognized leader in colposcopy and cervical screening. The successful candidate will fulfil a critical role in improving quality, safety and accessibility to appropriate care from prevention and screening to diagnosis and treatment including appropriate management of pre-invasive cervical diseases.
This Regional Colposcopy/Cervical Screening Leader is a clinical leader who will provide advice and contribute to implementation on this continuum and to identify best practices, opportunities for improvement, and help mitigate risks to the screening and colposcopy programs in the region.
This role is a partnership between the CE RCP and Ontario Health, Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO) reporting:
- Directly to the Central East Regional Vice President (RVP) of Cancer Services, and
- Indirectly to the Provincial Lead, Ontario Cervical Cancer Screening Program
Role and Responsibilities
- Visionary Leadership:
- Provide strong, visionary leadership at the Regional level as a recognized leader in colposcopy and cervical cancer prevention and build/ensure relationships with facilities delivering colposcopy services
- Provide advice to the CE RCP on cancer screening and colposcopy-related aspects of a high quality cervical cancer prevention program at the regional level
- Demonstrate in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues, relevant guidelines and the health system
- Champion the strategic vision:
- Champion the strategic vision and goals for the Cancer Screening (CS) Program in collaboration with the Provincial Clinical Lead, Ontario Cervical Screening Program (OCSP)
- Participate in strategic planning for regional program development related to cervical cancer prevention and screening
- Participate locally, regionally and with OH-CCO in the planning and implementation of cervical cancer screening (including HPV screening implementation) and prevention in the regional, including diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of pre-malignant and pre-clinical invasive disease
- Provide educational opportunities:
- Ensure the provision of educational opportunities based on evidence-based clinical guidelines, standards, and policies of the program in consultation with the Clinical Lead, OCSP
- Communicate evidence-based clinical standards, guidelines and policies of the Ontario screening and colposcopy programs to colposcopists and others involved with cervical cancer screening
- Monitor Regional Performance:
- Monitor regional clinical performance and advise on system performance and quality improvement opportunities
- Contribute to the development of a quality program for OCSP, including colposcopy
- Participate in quarterly performance review meetings with leadership at the CE RCP, providing advice on OCSP performance and outcomes
- Address colposcopy-related service delivery issues within the regional (e.g. quality management, access, wait times, etc.)
- Lead local quarterly initiatives to target performance gaps
- Collaborate with System Partners:
- Identify and respond to Regional system issues related to CS and the OCSP
- Collaborate with the Clinical and Scientific Leads, OCSP, Regional Primary Care Leads and other regional Colposcopy/Cervical Screening Leads in the identification and resolution of issues related to cervical cancer prevention throughout the continuum from screening through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
- Provide expert advice and support to stakeholders on clinical pathways from screening to final diagnosis of cervical cancer
- Participate in provincial and regional clinical lead meetings and other corporate initiatives, as required
- Reporting:
- Regional Lead will attend and often report at Quarterly performance review sessions with OH-CCO in conjunction with the RVP
- Regional Lead will attend the Central East Regional Cancer Program Leadership Council meetings quarterly and report on ongoing initiatives of the cervical cancer screening team
- Regional Lead will complete the appropriate section of the ICP Comprehensive Year-End Report and HPV Implementation Template
- Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) engages with Regional Cancer Programs in performance management activities that includes assessment of progress against key deliverables outlined in the Integrated Cancer Program agreements. As part of this process, Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) will seek updates from Regional Leads through an annual call and/or virtual meetings with the Provincial Clinical Lead to review progress against key program priorities
Qualifications:
- Licence to practice medicine in Ontario, including colposcopy.
- Actively practicing colposcopy and/or cervical cancer screening within the Central East Regional Cancer Program boundaries.
- Formal training in colposcopy (preferred); or demonstrated extensive professional expertise and experience in colposcopy.
- Active staff appointment at a public hospital in Ontario. Experienced colposcopist, performing a minimum of 100 colposcopies, (greater than 200 preferred but not required).
- Current membership in the Society of Canadian Colposcopists is preferred. Successful candidates will be asked to become active members, if not already members.
- Understanding of the principles of organized population-based cancer screening programs.
- Evidence of quality and/or research initiatives or innovative clinical practice.
- Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional education in colposcopy-related practice and cervical cancer screening.
- Recognition as a respected leader within their professional community.
- Ability to analyze information, make sound decisions and communicate these to clinical and non-clinical audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build consensus.
- Knowledge of current and new/emerging guidelines related to cervical screening and screening-related colposcopy services.
- Knowledge of clinical, administrative and system issues, with respect to cervical cancer screening and screening-related colposcopy services.
