“Last Thursday, the Lakeridge Health Board formally accepted the resignation of our President and CEO, Kevin Empey. Kevin will officially step down in April 2016 and, although he will continue to seek other opportunities to serve the people of Ontario in the health care sector, he’s also looking forward to having more time for his personal interests.
Kevin joined Lakeridge Health in 2008 and — right away — he made his mark by creating an organization-wide focus on quality and safety improvements. He has helped put us on the map as one of Ontario's largest and leading community hospitals. Among his many accomplishments, the Lakeridge Health team has run a balanced budget 5 years in a row, and we have taken leadership positions on various provincial and regional committees to implement health care reform. In addition, under Kevin's leadership, the Lakeridge Health team has:
- Improved patient satisfaction
- Reduced wait times for Emergency and diagnostics
- Re-opened the Whitby hospital and built the tower above the Cancer Center
- Developed plans to modernize and expand Lakeridge Health to serve the needs of Durham Region and beyond for the next 20 years.
I know I speak for the Board and the entire organization when I say that Lakeridge Health is a better, stronger hospital thanks to Kevin's dedication, talent and hard work. While we’re sad that he’s chosen to step down, we respect his desire to move on to new challenges. We know that he’ll soon find other opportunities to improve health care in our province — the way he has improved health care for the people of Durham.
Kevin will step down in April 2016. In the meantime, he will be focused on driving three priorities: our client information system, advancing the new building projects and continuing to develop our team. A search for a new President and CEO will begin with the hiring of a recruiter in October 2015.
Please join me in thanking Kevin and wishing him all the best as he embarks on the next phase of his career."
